Gases & dust
Six pollutants near the ground as fields, one at a time: nitrogen dioxide (traffic, power plants), ozone (made from them in sunshine, downwind), sulphur dioxide (coal, smelters, volcanoes), carbon monoxide (fires, combustion), PM10 and desert dust.

Each colour scale turns yellow at its WHO 2021 guideline: NO2 25, SO2 40 and PM10 45 µg/m³ over 24 h, ozone 100 µg/m³ over 8 h, CO 4 mg/m³ over 24 h; dust has no guideline of its own. Tap or hover for the value; the hour slider runs from yesterday to three days ahead.
Where the data comes from
CAMS global atmospheric composition forecasts (Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service, about 40 km) from the Copernicus Atmosphere Data Store, sampled on our server on a 5° grid twice a day, every 3 hours from 24 h ago to 72 h ahead; values between grid points are interpolated, so city-scale peaks (NO2 above all) are smoothed into regional levels.
Reading the map
Dark blue for clean air, teal and green below the WHO guideline, yellow at the guideline, then orange, red and purple at two, four and eight times it (CO stops at 4 mg/m³). Dust fades to transparent below about 5 µg/m³.
Units Micrograms per cubic metre (µg/m³) for every pollutant, CO included.
